About the role

We’re looking for a UX designer to take ownership of our product design while our current designer is on maternity leave. This is a 1-year fixed-term contract with possible extension.

You’ll be the sole designer on a small, fast-moving team. That means you’ll make and defend design decisions independently, without a design peer to consult. You’ll work directly with product and engineering to shape what we ship.

This is an AI-native design role. We use AI tools like Claude Code to generate working prototypes directly, sometimes bypassing Figma entirely. Engineering uses AI-assisted coding, which compresses the gap between design intent and shipped product. If you’re energized by the idea that a prototype can be generated in minutes rather than days, this role is for you.

The product team conducts user interviews and research (partly due to language considerations) and also proposes initial design concepts. Your job is to receive those findings and concepts, evaluate them critically, improve them, and give final design approval. That requires someone with strong opinions who can make autonomous calls.

What you’ll do

• Own UX for the Attuned product for the duration of the contract
• Review user research and interview findings from the product team and translate insights into design decisions
• Evaluate and refine designs proposed by product, and give final design approval on their concepts
• Create designs using AI tools like Claude Code for rapid HTML prototyping and generative exploration
• Write and iterate on PRDs alongside product and engineering
• Maintain and evolve the existing design system
• Collaborate directly with engineers in an AI-assisted workflow where the designer is often hands-on with output

Requirements

Must have

• Strong, opinionated design thinking. You can confidently make and defend design decisions on your own
• Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration
• Willing to use AI tools for design exploration and prototyping
• Can write clear product specs and PRDs
• Basic HTML/CSS literacy, enough to evaluate and adjust AI-generated output
• Can interpret research findings and translate them into design direction
• English at business level

Nice to have

• Prior experience with AI-assisted design workflows
• Figma proficiency (still useful, just not the only tool)
• B2B SaaS or HR tech experience
• Data literacy: you can read analytics dashboards and interpret engagement metrics
• Startup experience, used to wearing multiple hats
• Familiarity with design systems at a component and token level
• Japanese at conversational level
